3D Fingerprint

3D fingerprint technology aims to improve fingerprint recognition accuracy and hygiene by capturing the three-dimensional structure of fingerprints, rather than relying solely on 2D images. Current research focuses on developing algorithms for accurate 3D fingerprint reconstruction from single images (monocular vision), addressing perspective distortion, and improving matching techniques, including 3D graph matching and pose-specific unfolding to better align 3D and 2D fingerprint data. This field holds significant promise for enhancing biometric security systems by offering more robust and contactless authentication methods, potentially leading to improved accuracy and user experience.
