3D Microstructures
3D microstructures, the three-dimensional arrangement of material components, are crucial for determining macroscopic material properties. Current research focuses on developing efficient computational methods, including neural networks (e.g., VAEs, GANs, U-Nets, and transformers), to predict material behavior from microstructure images, design microstructures with targeted properties, and accelerate simulations of microstructure evolution. These advancements are significantly impacting materials science by enabling faster, more accurate material design and characterization, ultimately leading to improved material performance in various applications.
