3D Sonar
3D in-air sonar is an emerging sensing technology aiming to create accurate, real-time 3D acoustic images of the environment, particularly useful in challenging conditions where vision-based systems fail. Current research focuses on improving image stabilization through sensor fusion (e.g., integrating inertial measurement units) and advanced beamforming techniques, as well as developing robust algorithms, including convolutional neural networks and support vector machines, for landmark detection and classification to enhance autonomous navigation and Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM). This technology's ability to function reliably in adverse weather and lighting conditions makes it significant for robotics, autonomous vehicles, and other applications requiring robust environmental perception.
