Abstract Argumentation

Abstract argumentation is a field of artificial intelligence focused on modeling and analyzing arguments, aiming to determine the acceptability of individual arguments within a system. Current research emphasizes developing and refining various semantics for evaluating argument strength, often incorporating preferences, weights, and temporal or causal relationships, and employing techniques like graph convolutional networks, large language models, and answer set programming to improve computational efficiency and explainability. This work has significant implications for improving the transparency and trustworthiness of AI systems, particularly in applications like decision support, legal reasoning, and fact verification, by providing a formal framework for understanding and evaluating arguments.
