Acoustic Soft Tactile

Acoustic soft tactile (AST) sensing uses embedded acoustic channels within flexible materials to detect and quantify tactile interactions. Current research focuses on developing accurate and cost-effective methods for mapping acoustic wave modulations—caused by pressure and deformation—to tactile information such as force, location, and contact geometry, often employing machine learning models like regression and classification algorithms. This technology offers a promising approach for creating robust, low-cost tactile sensors for soft robotics, enabling improved dexterity and interaction with delicate objects in applications ranging from robotic manipulation to wearable devices.
