Active Perception
Active perception is a research area focusing on how agents, whether robots or AI systems, can intelligently gather information by actively controlling their sensing process to achieve specific goals, mirroring human behavior. Current research emphasizes developing algorithms and models, such as those based on reinforcement learning, neural radiance fields, and vision-language models, to guide this active information gathering, often incorporating techniques like information gain maximization and attention mechanisms. This field is crucial for advancing robotics, autonomous systems, and AI, enabling more efficient and robust performance in complex, uncertain environments by optimizing sensor placement and data acquisition.
