Active Vision

Active vision research focuses on endowing artificial systems with the ability to selectively gather visual information, mimicking human eye movements and attention mechanisms to improve efficiency and robustness in perception and action. Current research emphasizes developing algorithms and models, including those based on transformers, reinforcement learning, and neural radiance fields, that enable robots and AI agents to actively control their viewpoints and sensor modalities to optimize data acquisition for specific tasks, such as object recognition, manipulation, and scene reconstruction. This field is crucial for advancing robotics, autonomous driving, and other applications requiring intelligent interaction with complex, dynamic environments, particularly where occlusion or limited field of view are significant challenges.
