Additive Manufacturing
Additive manufacturing (AM), or 3D printing, aims to create objects layer-by-layer from digital designs, focusing on improving process reliability, quality control, and efficiency. Current research emphasizes the use of machine learning, particularly deep learning models like convolutional neural networks, recurrent networks, and transformers, to monitor processes in real-time, predict part quality (e.g., porosity, surface roughness, tensile strength), and optimize parameters for improved performance. These advancements are significant for various sectors, enabling faster prototyping, customized production, and the creation of complex geometries previously unattainable through traditional manufacturing methods.
