Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a three-dimensional spinal curvature requiring accurate diagnosis and monitoring, typically relying on X-rays and manual Cobb angle measurements. Current research focuses on developing non-invasive, automated methods for assessing AIS severity, utilizing techniques like gait analysis via deep learning models (e.g., incorporating multi-task learning) and automated ultrasound or DXA scan processing with neural networks and instance segmentation for accurate Cobb angle estimation. These advancements aim to reduce radiation exposure, improve diagnostic consistency, and facilitate more efficient and accessible scoliosis screening and management.
