ADPCM Scheme

Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation (ADPCM) schemes aim to efficiently encode speech signals by predicting and encoding only the difference between successive samples. Current research focuses on replacing traditional linear prediction models with nonlinear approaches, often employing neural networks like Multi-Layer Perceptrons (MLPs), to better capture the inherent nonlinearities in speech. These advancements yield improvements in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and potentially lower bit rates, leading to higher-quality speech at reduced data transmission requirements. This improved efficiency has implications for various applications, including telecommunications and speech recognition systems.
