Bark Beetle
Bark beetles pose a significant threat to forest ecosystems globally, necessitating effective early detection methods for informed management strategies. Current research heavily emphasizes using remote sensing data, particularly from UAVs, coupled with machine learning, especially deep learning architectures like RetinaNet and random forests, to classify different stages of beetle infestation at the individual tree level. These advanced techniques aim to overcome challenges like crown overlap and inconsistent visual symptoms, improving accuracy in identifying infested trees compared to traditional methods. The improved accuracy of these detection methods has significant implications for forest conservation and resource management.
