Barren Plateau
Barren plateaus (BPs) are a significant challenge in variational quantum algorithms (VQAs), where the optimization landscape becomes exponentially flat and difficult to navigate as the number of qubits or circuit depth increases, hindering the training process. Current research focuses on mitigating BPs through various strategies, including improved ansatz design (e.g., state-efficient ansatzes), innovative initialization techniques (e.g., Gaussian or beta-distribution based), and ensemble learning methods. Overcoming BPs is crucial for realizing the potential of VQAs in diverse fields like quantum chemistry and machine learning, enabling the development of more powerful and scalable quantum algorithms.
