Current research employs advanced deep learning models, including convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and transformer-based architectures, to automate this process, often incorporating techniques like synthetic image generation and graph neural networks to handle data variability and missing information across diverse datasets. These advancements enable more efficient and robust analysis of large-scale clinical MRI data, facilitating studies of brain aging, neurodegenerative diseases, and other conditions where brain volume changes are implicated, ultimately improving diagnostic capabilities and our understanding of brain health.
