Building Information Modeling

Building Information Modeling (BIM) integrates digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places, facilitating improved design, construction, and operation of buildings and infrastructure. Current research emphasizes automating BIM processes through AI, particularly leveraging large language models (LLMs) and graph neural networks (GNNs) to streamline tasks like model creation, data management, and energy analysis, often integrating with 3D LiDAR and other sensor data for real-time applications. This automation improves efficiency and reduces costs across the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector, while also enabling more sophisticated analyses like human activity recognition within construction sites and improved energy performance predictions for buildings and urban environments.
