Byzantine Fault
Byzantine fault tolerance addresses the challenge of maintaining system reliability and correctness despite the presence of malicious or faulty nodes. Current research focuses on developing robust algorithms and architectures for distributed systems, particularly in federated learning and blockchain-based applications, employing techniques like robust aggregation, gradient compression, and blockchain-based incentive mechanisms to mitigate the impact of Byzantine failures. This work is crucial for ensuring the security and reliability of large-scale distributed systems, impacting areas such as machine learning, payment systems, and other critical infrastructure. The overarching goal is to design systems that can function correctly even with a significant fraction of compromised components.
