Cartoon Editing

Cartoon editing research aims to automate the manipulation of cartoon images, enabling tasks like style transfer and animation that were previously heavily reliant on manual processes. Current efforts focus on developing robust instance segmentation models, often leveraging large, newly-created datasets of high-resolution cartoon images and their corresponding labeled masks, to accurately identify and separate individual characters and objects within complex scenes. This improved segmentation capability unlocks a range of advanced editing applications, enhancing both artistic creation and the potential for novel visual effects in animation and other media.
