Categorial Grammar

Categorial grammar (CG) is a linguistic framework that analyzes sentence structure by assigning syntactic categories to words and using logical rules to combine them, aiming to model the compositional nature of meaning. Current research focuses on extending CG's expressive power through additions like conjunction and disjunction operations, integrating it with other formalisms like Lambek calculus and tree-adjoining grammars, and developing computational tools such as CCG parsers and novel algorithms for efficient processing and semantic interpretation. This work has implications for natural language processing, particularly in areas like semantic parsing, question answering, and the development of more linguistically informed machine learning models, bridging the gap between theoretical linguistics and practical applications.
