Character Network
Character networks represent character relationships in narratives as graphs, enabling quantitative analysis of plot structures and character dynamics. Current research focuses on developing robust methods for extracting these networks from text, including using natural language processing pipelines and exploring the limitations of large language models in capturing complex relationships. This approach offers valuable insights into narrative structure, allowing researchers to analyze genre conventions, predict audience engagement (e.g., through correlations with viewer ratings), and even improve scriptwriting through agent-based modeling. The resulting quantitative data provides a new lens for literary analysis and creative writing.
