Chaser Satellite
Chaser satellites are robotic spacecraft designed to autonomously approach, capture, and de-orbit space debris, mitigating the growing risk of collisions in Low Earth Orbit. Current research focuses on improving the reliability and autonomy of these missions, employing advanced computer vision techniques like convolutional neural networks (CNNs) such as YOLOv5 and Faster R-CNN for target recognition and relative pose estimation, and reinforcement learning for robust control strategies in capturing debris using methods like robotic arms or tether nets. These advancements are crucial for enhancing space sustainability and enabling on-orbit servicing operations, improving the safety and efficiency of space activities.
