Cognitive Distortion
Cognitive distortion, characterized by biased or irrational thought patterns, is a significant area of research focusing on its detection and remediation, particularly within mental health contexts. Current research leverages natural language processing (NLP) techniques, including deep learning models and large language models (LLMs) like GPT, to analyze text data (e.g., social media posts, therapy transcripts) for identifying cognitive distortions and generating positive reframings. This work aims to improve the accessibility and effectiveness of mental health interventions, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), by automating aspects of diagnosis and treatment planning, though challenges remain in achieving high accuracy and mitigating issues like model hallucinations.
