Cognitive Impairment
Cognitive impairment, encompassing conditions like mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia, is characterized by a decline in cognitive abilities beyond typical age-related changes. Current research focuses on developing automated diagnostic tools using diverse data sources, including speech, handwriting, brain imaging (fMRI, MRI, PET), and video analysis of facial expressions and movements, employing machine learning algorithms such as convolutional neural networks, transformers, and even hybrid quantum-classical approaches. These efforts aim to enable earlier, more efficient, and less invasive detection and monitoring of cognitive decline, ultimately improving patient care and potentially reducing the substantial societal burden associated with these conditions.
