Cognitive Map
Cognitive maps are internal representations of spatial environments, crucial for navigation and planning, mirroring similar processes in animal brains. Current research focuses on developing computational models of cognitive maps, employing architectures like neural networks (including those inspired by hippocampal place and grid cells), active inference frameworks, and transformer-based approaches, often integrated with planning algorithms. These advancements aim to improve AI agents' ability to navigate and reason in complex, partially-observed environments, with implications for robotics, autonomous systems, and a deeper understanding of human cognition.
