Compliant Robot
Compliant robots, characterized by their ability to deform and interact safely with their environment, are a burgeoning field of robotics research focused on improving dexterity, safety, and efficiency in various tasks. Current research emphasizes developing robust control algorithms, often incorporating model-based and learning-based approaches (e.g., reinforcement learning, disturbance observers) to manage the complexities of compliant dynamics and interactions, particularly in contact-rich scenarios. This work is significant for advancing human-robot collaboration, enabling robots to perform delicate tasks in unstructured environments (e.g., surgery, assembly), and improving the efficiency of material handling and other industrial processes.
