Computational Sociolinguistics
Computational sociolinguistics applies computational methods to analyze language use in social contexts, aiming to understand how social factors shape language and vice versa. Current research focuses on leveraging large language models to analyze social media data, exploring issues like gender bias, geographic representation disparities, and the spread of linguistic variations across socioeconomic groups. These analyses reveal insights into social dynamics, stereotypes embedded in language, and the limitations of current language models, informing the development of more equitable and accurate AI systems and advancing our understanding of human communication.
