Creole Language

Creole languages, arising from language contact, are a focus of growing research in natural language processing (NLP) due to their underrepresentation in existing resources. Current efforts concentrate on developing NLP tools and resources, such as multilingual models fine-tuned on Creole corpora, to address the challenges of low-resource settings and improve machine translation and other tasks. This work highlights the need for community involvement in defining relevant applications and overcoming biases inherent in transferring models trained on high-resource languages. Ultimately, advancing NLP for Creoles promotes linguistic diversity and empowers Creole-speaking communities.
