Cultural Intelligence

Cultural intelligence (CI) research focuses on developing computational models, particularly large language models (LLMs), that accurately understand and respond to culturally nuanced information. Current efforts concentrate on creating benchmark datasets reflecting diverse cultures, improving LLMs' ability to interpret visual and textual data within cultural contexts, and analyzing the cognitive processes (holistic vs. analytic thinking) exhibited by these models. This work is crucial for mitigating biases in AI systems and creating more inclusive and effective applications across various domains, including education and cross-cultural communication.
