Dark Jargon
Dark jargon, or specialized language understood only by insiders within a specific field or group, poses significant challenges for communication and the reliable functioning of AI systems. Current research focuses on identifying and mitigating the effects of dark jargon in various contexts, including machine translation, automatic speech recognition, and large language models, often employing techniques like keyword spotting, prompt engineering, and fine-tuning of pre-trained models such as Whisper and GPT. Understanding and addressing this issue is crucial for improving the accessibility and trustworthiness of AI, enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensuring the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies across diverse domains.
