DeepFake Technology

Deepfake technology uses artificial intelligence, particularly generative adversarial networks (GANs) and diffusion models, to create realistic but fabricated videos and images, primarily focusing on manipulating facial features. Current research emphasizes improving both the realism of deepfakes and the accuracy of detection methods, exploring diverse approaches such as analyzing visual artifacts, exploiting inconsistencies between audio and visual signals, and leveraging neural networks (including CNNs and Transformers) for both generation and detection. The ability to create highly convincing deepfakes poses significant risks related to misinformation, fraud, and privacy violations, driving intense research efforts to develop robust detection techniques and understand the broader societal implications of this technology.
