Document Degradation
Document degradation encompasses the deterioration of documents over time due to various factors, impacting their readability and usability. Current research focuses on developing methods to mitigate this degradation, employing techniques such as convolutional neural networks for image restoration, diffusion models for enhancement, and novel metrics for assessing the severity of degradation across different modalities (images, text, and even DNA sequences). These advancements are crucial for preserving historical archives, improving the accuracy of automated document processing (like OCR), and enhancing the performance of machine learning models trained on degraded data.
