Ecosystem-level analysis examines the collective impact of multiple interacting components within an ecological or technological system, moving beyond the analysis of individual elements. Current research focuses on applying machine learning, particularly large language models and vision transformers, to analyze complex datasets from diverse sources (e.g., remote sensing imagery, public data) to quantify ecosystem services and predict environmental variables. This approach is crucial for improving environmental management, resource allocation, and understanding the societal impact of deployed machine learning systems, revealing systemic biases and failures not apparent in single-model analyses.
