Entropy Production
Entropy production quantifies the irreversible energy dissipation in systems far from equilibrium, a key concept for understanding diverse phenomena from biological processes to active matter. Current research focuses on developing machine learning methods, including neural networks with tailored architectures like transformers and those informed by thermodynamic principles (e.g., port-Hamiltonian and port-metriplectic frameworks), to efficiently estimate entropy production from complex, high-dimensional data. These advancements enable accurate quantification of entropy production in systems previously intractable, offering insights into nonequilibrium dynamics and informing the development of more realistic models across various scientific disciplines.
