Epistemic State
Epistemic state research focuses on understanding how agents (humans or AI) acquire, represent, and reason with knowledge, encompassing beliefs, uncertainties, and evidence. Current research investigates how these states are modeled computationally, employing Bayesian frameworks, causal models, and dynamic epistemic logic, often within the context of natural language processing and AI systems. This work is crucial for developing more robust and ethically sound AI, addressing issues of epistemic injustice and improving human-AI interaction, as well as for advancing our understanding of human cognition. Furthermore, it has implications for fields like education and healthcare, where accurate assessment of epistemic states is vital.
