Fine Grained Bias

Fine-grained bias in machine learning models refers to the subtle, often overlooked biases that affect predictions at the individual data point level, rather than just across broad demographic groups. Current research focuses on developing methods to detect and mitigate these biases, often employing techniques like fine-grained calibration of model parameters within specific layers or using pairwise comparisons to identify and correct for imbalances in class representation. This work is crucial for improving the fairness and reliability of AI systems across various applications, ranging from language models and image recognition to more specialized tasks like instance segmentation, ultimately leading to more equitable and trustworthy AI.
