Fish Segmentation
Fish segmentation, the automated identification and outlining of individual fish within images or videos, aims to improve efficiency and accuracy in fisheries management and ecological research. Current research focuses on developing robust deep learning models, including Mask R-CNNs and Vision Transformers, often incorporating techniques like self-supervised learning and data augmentation to address challenges posed by diverse fish species, dense populations, and complex underwater environments. These advancements enable automated fish counting, species classification, and size estimation, offering significant potential for streamlining fish stock assessments, reducing labor costs, and enhancing the precision of ecological studies.
