Free Distillation
Free distillation is a machine learning technique focused on transferring knowledge from a pre-trained "teacher" model to a smaller, more efficient "student" model without using the original training data. Current research emphasizes developing data-free distillation methods for various model architectures, including generative adversarial networks (GANs), diffusion models, and large language models (LLMs), often employing techniques like contrastive learning and score matching to improve knowledge transfer. This approach offers significant advantages in scenarios demanding privacy preservation, reduced computational costs, and efficient model deployment on resource-constrained devices, impacting fields ranging from image generation and natural language processing to federated learning and medical image analysis.
