Free Space Optical
Free-space optical (FSO) communication uses light to transmit data through the air, aiming to provide high-bandwidth, secure links. Current research heavily focuses on mitigating the detrimental effects of atmospheric turbulence, employing machine learning techniques – including convolutional neural networks and physics-informed models based on dimensional analysis – to predict and compensate for signal degradation. These advancements, along with the exploration of integrated optical neural networks for faster processing, are improving the reliability and performance of FSO systems for applications like air surveillance and potentially broader data transmission.
