Free Viewpoint Relighting
Free-viewpoint relighting aims to realistically change the illumination of a 3D scene while simultaneously altering the viewpoint, enabling dynamic manipulation of virtual objects. Recent research heavily utilizes neural implicit representations, such as neural radiance fields and reflectance fields, often combined with 3D Gaussian point clouds or wavelet-based approaches for efficient light transport modeling. These methods focus on disentangling geometry and appearance to achieve high-fidelity relighting, particularly addressing challenges like handling shadows, glossy reflections, and subsurface scattering in both opaque and translucent materials. This research advances both computer graphics and computer vision, with applications in virtual and augmented reality, digital content creation, and material science.
