Fringe Community
Fringe communities, characterized by their promotion of unconventional or extremist views, are a growing area of research focusing on understanding their formation, growth, and spread, particularly within online platforms. Current studies utilize network analysis techniques, including examination of information diffusion patterns and cross-community interactions, to model community dynamics and identify factors like toxic language and inter-community engagement as drivers of growth. This research is significant for its potential to inform strategies for mitigating the spread of misinformation and harmful ideologies online, and for advancing our understanding of social influence and community formation in complex networks.
