Gated Camera
Gated cameras, employing nanosecond-scale illumination pulses, capture time-resolved scene information, offering a novel approach to 3D scene reconstruction and depth estimation. Current research focuses on developing algorithms that leverage this temporal information, often combining gated images with other modalities like stereo vision and RGB data, to achieve high-resolution, long-range depth maps robust to challenging lighting and weather conditions. These advancements hold significant promise for applications in autonomous driving, robotics, and computer vision, particularly in scenarios where traditional methods struggle, such as low-light or adverse weather conditions. Furthermore, research is exploring the use of gated imaging for improving the explainability of deep learning models.
