Gestalt Theory
Gestalt theory, exploring how humans perceive wholes from parts, is experiencing renewed interest through its application in artificial intelligence. Current research focuses on using Gestalt principles—like proximity, similarity, and closure—to improve the performance of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and transformer architectures in tasks such as image recognition, rare disease diagnosis, and even vector graphic manipulation. This work aims to enhance AI systems by incorporating human-like perceptual grouping abilities, leading to more robust and intuitive models with potential applications across diverse fields.
