Grammar Description
Grammar description research focuses on automatically extracting and representing grammatical structures and rules from corpora, aiming to create more efficient and accessible grammatical resources. Current efforts utilize machine learning models, including large language models and linear classifiers, to analyze treebanks and other linguistic data, often focusing on extracting rules for specific phenomena like agreement and word order across diverse languages. This work has implications for both linguistic theory, by providing quantitative insights into grammatical patterns, and practical applications, such as improving machine translation for low-resource languages and creating more effective language learning materials.
