Grammatical Phenomenon

Research on grammatical phenomena focuses on understanding how language models (LMs) process and generate grammatically correct sentences, particularly concerning rare or complex structures. Current efforts involve creating and utilizing large-scale datasets of minimal pairs and systematically manipulated corpora to evaluate LMs' abilities to generalize from common to rare grammatical constructions, employing transformer architectures and rule-based approaches. These studies reveal limitations in LMs' understanding of nuanced syntactic processes, highlighting the need for improved models that can accurately capture the complexities of human language and paving the way for more robust natural language processing applications.
