Group Fairness Metric
Group fairness metrics aim to quantify and mitigate bias in machine learning models, ensuring fair outcomes across different demographic groups. Current research focuses on developing new metrics that incorporate domain expertise and address limitations of existing approaches like demographic parity and equalized odds, including exploring causal connections between fairness and accuracy. This work is crucial for building trustworthy AI systems, impacting both the development of fairer algorithms and the ethical deployment of machine learning in high-stakes applications such as loan applications, hiring processes, and healthcare. Ongoing efforts also involve analyzing the influence of individual features on bias and developing methods to protect sensitive attributes during fairness assessments.
