Image Geolocation
Image geolocation aims to determine the geographic location where a photograph was taken, using only the image's visual content. Current research focuses on improving accuracy, particularly in under-represented regions, by employing ensemble methods that combine multiple models and data sources, including satellite imagery and textual descriptions. This involves developing new evaluation metrics that account for the uncertainty inherent in geolocation estimations and addressing biases stemming from skewed training data. Advances in this field have significant implications for various applications, including geospatial analysis, environmental monitoring, and combating misinformation.
