Image Schema
Image schemas are fundamental cognitive patterns representing recurring experiences and relationships, influencing how we understand abstract concepts and express them through language and gestures. Current research focuses on computationally representing these schemas, often using techniques like clustering of word embeddings derived from natural language processing models (e.g., BERT) to create vector representations that capture semantic similarity between schemas. This work aims to improve the generation of realistic and meaningful embodied interactions in artificial agents, particularly in the context of metaphoric gestures. The ability to model image schemas computationally promises advancements in artificial intelligence, particularly in areas like human-computer interaction and the understanding of cognitive processes.
