Infrastructure Free
Infrastructure-free localization aims to determine the position and orientation of a device or agent without relying on pre-existing maps or infrastructure. Current research focuses on leveraging various sensor modalities, including cameras, LiDAR, and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, often employing deep learning models (like Transformers) and algorithms such as iterative closest point registration or those based on spectral decomposition and spatial likelihood models to achieve accurate localization. This field is significant for enabling autonomous navigation in unstructured environments and improving the efficiency and flexibility of applications ranging from multi-robot systems to precision agriculture and asset tracking.
