Inspection Drone
Inspection drones are increasingly used for efficient and cost-effective monitoring of critical infrastructure, such as power lines, wind turbines, and pipelines, overcoming accessibility challenges. Current research focuses on improving drone autonomy through advanced sensor fusion (e.g., combining visual odometry and UWB data) and robust control algorithms for precise positioning and landing, especially in challenging environments like high winds. Deep learning models, often trained on mixed real and synthetic datasets, are central to automated defect detection in captured imagery, enhancing the speed and accuracy of inspections. These advancements significantly improve safety and reduce operational costs across various industries.
