Inter Satellite Link
Inter-satellite links (ISLs) are enabling new capabilities for satellite constellations, primarily focused on improving data processing and network robustness. Current research emphasizes using ISLs to facilitate distributed machine learning techniques like federated learning, allowing for collaborative model training among satellites without sharing raw data, and improving efficiency through optimized scheduling algorithms. This approach is particularly relevant for applications requiring autonomous operation in remote environments (e.g., lunar or Martian missions) or for enhancing data processing in large constellations, leading to faster and more efficient data analysis and improved service delivery.
