Intersection Safety

Intersection safety research focuses on mitigating collisions at intersections, a major source of traffic accidents. Current efforts concentrate on leveraging connected and automated vehicles (CAVs), advanced traffic signal control (using deep reinforcement learning and other AI techniques), and data-driven predictive models (like graph neural networks and transformers) to forecast and prevent hazardous situations, such as those involving dilemma zones in roundabouts. These advancements aim to improve safety metrics like time-to-collision and ultimately reduce accidents, informing the design of safer infrastructure and autonomous driving systems.
