Intraoperative Ultrasound
Intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS) aims to improve surgical precision and safety by providing real-time imaging during procedures, particularly in neurosurgery and liver resection. Current research heavily focuses on developing AI-driven methods, including deep learning models and novel keypoint descriptors, to improve image registration (matching preoperative MRI with intraoperative ultrasound) and segmentation (identifying specific tissues like tumors or vessels). These advancements, along with the development of robotic ultrasound systems for improved scanning and data acquisition, promise to enhance surgical planning, reduce errors, and ultimately improve patient outcomes.
